THIS SUNDAY @ CALVARY

NEW SERIES: SPACE
What do you do with your space? As we face many new possibilities and challenges this year, our opportunities lie in the space between our circumstances and reactions – a place where God wants to meet with us. Come explore this space in between.

KID'S CLUBS MAKE
A DIFFERENCE
IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
By: Sharon Meaney, Staff Writer
"I remember you -- you prayed with me when I asked Jesus into my heart!"
Tami Senner has been both a small and large-group leader in the Capri Kid's Club program for two years, and has had the privilege of praying with many students as they asked Jesus into their hearts.
Each Wednesday afternoon at Capri Elementary School, more than 90 first through fifth graders gather to learn about God, participate in Christian-themed activities and crafts, and just have a good time -- all on-site on the public school campus. For two years, this kids club has rapidly grown to capacity, and lives are being touched.
"Teaching God's word from the Bible was more significant than anything I had ever taught in my 11 years of teaching English as a profession," says Tami. "Many parents have learned about Christ from their children, and students have said this year that their parents now take them to church on Sundays."
Group leaders, John and Barbara Cellar have also been involved with the ministry for two years. " We have ten second graders who are eager to participate in the activities each week. Their enthusiasm has really inspired us."
What impressed Tami the most was that Kid's Club allows children who otherwise could not afford after-school programs, learn about Christ. . "They know they are loved no matter what they encounter at home, and they learn to depend on Christ in their lives."

CHILDREN "TAKE A WALK" FOR AFRICA ON JAN 18
On January 18th, children in the 1st-5th grades will strive to raise awareness of children in poverty. Promiseland Children's Ministries will “Take the Walk” around the church campus - approximately one mile - during 9:00 am worship service. For every child who walks one mile, the Take the Walk foundation will donate $1 will raise funds towards drilling a well to make clean water available in Africa by Blood: Water Mission. No fundraising is necessary.
All children, family and friends are invited to attend. Each person who participates raises $1.00 more towards the cause. Younger children must be accompanied by a parent. Unaccompanied elementary children need to complete a permission slip to participate in the walk. (Slips are available in Promiseland and Shockwave).

MEET KATHY DERSCH
CHILDREN'S MINISTRIES
What is your favorite thing about working with children’s ministries?
For the past 30 years, it's been a privilege to partner with dozens of teachers nursery, preschool and elementary and work together to teach children about God. Although I do enjoy teaching, the greatest reward is watching the children grow up and become servants themselves. Some of my “kids” have grown up and now work on staff at Calvary; others are teachers, missionaries or parents themselves. Some are youth leaders at camps or serve every Sunday in the children’s department.
My oldest daughter participated in the Leader in Training program and was a Youth Leader. She went on 3 missions trips, was a counselor at Xtreme Camp, and now is a school teacher. Our children’s and youth ministries train our children and youth for a life of service, and it’s a joy to be a small part of their preparation.
