CALVARY LIBRARIAN MINISTERS THROUGH HER LOVE OF BOOKS
By Denise Boiko, Staff Writer
Browsing for Christian fiction, choosing picture books for pre-schoolers, or perusing Bible commentaries—all can be done in the comfort of our Calvary Library. While church libraries are rare today, our faithful librarian of 28 years, Maureen Grube, is an even rarer blessing. As she leads this ministry with a servant's heart, Maureen expresses her love for books, for people, and for the Lord.
“It's been a joy meeting so many people over the years,” says Maureen, who finds her role extremely rewarding. Additionally, she enjoys looking after the hundreds of special books which help people understand the Bible. Calvary's collection is so well-known that local Christian universities sometimes come to borrow books.
Maureen's start in this ministry came when God clearly prompted her to use her passion for reading to serve Him. Later, as she stepped up to leadership and used her administrative skills, she witnessed how God puts teams of people together according to their talents. “By serving according to your God-given passions, you are more likely to stick with a ministry,” she adds.
Maureen has systematically built up the library's collection, selecting quality Christian fiction, children's books, and books on key topics such as parenting. Children have been prominent library users over the years, enjoying story time and Kids' Library Day through their Sunday School classes. In addition, Calvary's library has reached out to our world, providing hundreds of books for prison ministry and for our troops through Adopt-a-Chaplain.
Calvary attenders of all ages are welcome to come explore the library...and greet Maureen! |
