Adopt-A-Chaplain

ADOPT-A-CHAPLAIN DRIVE CONTINUES THIS SUNDAY

Adopt-A-Chaplain supports our troops through the ministries of chaplains by providing items they need most. This Sunday, Adopt-A-Chaplain will be collecting items to ship to chaplains in the Middle East. You can help by bringing in designated items and placing them in an Adopt-A-Chaplain barrel in the Worship Center.

BUILDING LIVES: PLAYHOUSE CALVARY

Playhouse Calvary is an indoor playtime designed for kids ages 1-5 and their moms to connect in a fun, creative environment while the kids play. We need your help to make it a success. We need adults who don’t have young children to volunteer in our craft & reading rooms, welcome table and various other areas through out the year. If you are willing and able to help, please email Wendy Feierfeil at awfeierfeil@sbcglobal.net or stop by our table on Sunday morning to sign up.

Global Media Outreach: Jesus 2020

REACHING THE WORLD THROUGH THE INTERNET

Located right on Calvary's campus, Global Media Outreach (GMO) answers millions of email each day from people wanting to know more about Jesus Christ. Recently, the number of inquiries from the San Jose area has increased. GMO and Calvary Church are partnering together to connect these individuals to the local church.

All emails from the San Jose area will be routed to a volunteer specifically through Calvary Church. This gives volunteers an opportunity to minister to someone locally and invite them to church over the internet.

"GMO scared me at first since I am NOT tech savvy" said Jon Baldwin, a GMO online responder and long-standing member of Calvary Church. "I thought I would be answering deep theological questions. However, most are very honest people hurting in relationships, out of work, disappointed with 'religion,' or hungry for the truth."

GMO's system is designed to be simple for volunteers. Easy, pre-made templates are available for responses. Tough inquiries such as suicidal individuals and those with marriage difficulties are reassigned to a personal counselor, who can help them with their specific issues. One hour of instruction is all it takes to become an online responder. Because answers can be sent any time of the day, it can work with virtually anyone's schedule.

Pres Winters, another GMO online responder and member of Calvary Church has communicated with over 9,000 people through GMO from all over the world.

"This is a great way to reach people for Christ, and they are responding because they are interested in learning more about the Christian life," says Press. "I know of no other ministry that has that huge breadth of contact. The training is simple - why not give it a try?"

SIGN UPS FOR WOMEN'S FALL BIBLE STUDIES BEGIN ON SUNDAY

This fall, Women's Ministries presents a menu of opportunities for women of all ages. Weekly and bi-weekly Bible studies provide a healthy environment for women to grow in their relationship with God and form lasting friendships with each other.

Regular Bible studies meet on Thursday mornings and evenings. This year, we are also offering a Monday morning option. Home groups studies are also available in the evenings.

Sign ups begin on Sunday, 8/30 at the Women's tent on the quad.

MOPS LAUNCHES THE FALL SEASON ON SEPTEMBER 8TH

In September, MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) will launch its 2009-2010 season running through next May. This year, we will focus on the theme Together on Planet Mom and verse Matthew 18:20. MOPS is an international, non-denominational, Christian organization that reaches out to all mothers of children ages infancy to kindergarten. If you are interested in getting involved in MOPS, stop by the MOPS table on Sunday or email Amy Olson at amy@cobeinc.com.
