ONE WOMAN SEARCHES TO FIND HER NEW NORMAL
By Dee Wilson,
Women's Ministry Director
Having left her teaching career to start a family, Courtney Hammett wondered how she would figure out her new “normal." Friends suggested she try a Mothers of Preschoolers Group in her area. An online search led her to Calvary’s MOPS.
At MOPS, Courtney was encouraged in her new role as a stay-at-home mom, forming friendships and learning how to be the kind of mother she wanted to be. Courtney began sensing a spiritual need as well and joined our Thursday morning Women’s Bible study.
“If I could name one ministry that has impacted me the most it would be this," says Courtney. "As I started learning more, reading God's word daily, setting aside time to pray specifically, I began to grow and become closer to Him.”
Eventually joining the MOPS leadership team, Courtney served for two years as one of our most effective coordinators. During this time, Courtney entered trial after trial. She suffered two miscarriages, the loss of several family members, and a dear friend’s stage 3 cancer diagnosis.
"Through it all, I was aware of God by my side, carrying me," says Courtney. "I believe if not for MOPS and Women's Bible Study I would not have been where I needed to be in my Christian walk.”
This fall, Courtney embarks on a new adventure as one of our Women’s Bible Study leaders.
With the birth of their first child five years ago, Courtney and her husband Shawn decided they needed to incorporate church into their lives for the benefit of their family. We are so blessed to have them.
