THIS SUNDAY @ CALVARY

simplify.

SIMPLY SERIES CONTINUES ON SUNDAY

Today, it seems almost impossible to simplify our lives. Our busy calendars, concerns about money and time constraints often keep us from focusing on God’s plan and purpose. During this series, we will focus on how to simplify each of these areas and fill our lives with what really matters.

Microfinance in IndiaREACHING INDIA THROUGH MICROFINANCE

For the first time, Valarmathi feels secure about her future. Ever since she was a little girl, Valarmathi wanted to be financially independent, but with two young daughters to support, she struggled to provide them with the education they needed.

Valarmathi heard about Opportunity International and its India partner, Growing Finance, who provided small business loans for people just like her. She used a loan to open and expand a small retail shop, and she proudly reported, "I have tripled my income!"

Today, Valarmathi works for Opportunity's Growing Finance as a loan officer and shares that same passion with several hundred women who are simply trying to survive.

This year, Calvary Church's Global Strategy Team decided to partner with Opportunity International, one of the largest microfinance lenders in the world. As people extend loans to impoverished nations through Opportunity, they are also extending the love and message of Jesus Christ.

In addition to our decision to partner with Opportunity, we sent a financial gift to a needy community in India. Opportunity directed 100% of the funds to that community and people such as Valarmathi.

Recently, we received a letter from Oppotunity International that shared Valarmathi's story with us and expressed great gratitute: "Your funding has had a significant impact on the clients we serve and has also allowed Opportunity to become a beacon of hope to communities in need."

You will have the chance to learn more about Opportunity International at our annual Global Ministry Week in February.

The Church Has Left the Building

2009 WALK FOR AIDS
Sunday October 18th @ 8:00am

CALVARY CHURCH is leaving the building again this year to participate in San Jose's annual WALK FOR AIDS. All proceeds raised by Calvary Church will benefit The Health Trust which has been promoting health and wellness in the people and communities of the Silicon Valley since 1996.

The Walk for AIDS will begin at Discovery Meadow in downtown San Jose and follow the Guadalupe Trail for about 5.2 miles. Athough no fundraising is required to walk, those who raise $25 or more will receive a Walk for AIDS T-Shirt (not the Beautiful Day T-Shirt) and lunch. It is the largest fundraising event for HIV/AIDS in Santa Clara County, attracting more than 3,500 individuals each year.

Register through the Calvary Church website under Team Beautiful Day. We encourage all participants to take public transportation on the day of the event.

Kid's Club

IMPACTING KIDS AND THEIR FUTURE

Kids’ Club is a free after-school Bible-based club filled with fun games, crafts and small group time as well as songs and Bible teaching. These children come from many different backgrounds: economically, ethnically, spiritually and more.

At Calvary, we want to reach out to children and families in our community with the opportunity to become followers of Christ. Last year, children had to be placed on a waiting list due to a lack of volunteers! Volunteers are needed simply to lead and support our small groups.

Kids Club at Capri Elementary School takes place on Wednesdays from 12:30-2:30pm beginning October 14th. You can make a difference in a child's life today! For more information, please contact Joy Yankey, Director of Children’s Ministries at Calvary Church at (408)356-5126 x239.
