THE DIFFERENCE
ONE DAY CAN MAKE
Joyce Roberts (Staff Writer)
When Jennifer Hutchison first signed up for the Walk for AIDS in San Jose, she
had her reasons. With a cousin and several students whose lives have been affected by AIDS, she knew she had to
do something.
"I'm at church almost every Sunday and I simply go through the motions," said Jennifer. "I needed to step out of my comfort zone physically, spiritually and emotionally...And here was another chance to do that."
Jennifer was one of the 300 people from Calvary Church who joined Team Beautiful Day, businesses, and individuals to walk on Sunday, October 19th. The more than 800 people who joined Team Beautiful Day raised over $30,000 for The Living Center, a home for people suffering from AIDS in San Jose.
Ray Mueller, Walk for AIDS coordinator, was amazed by the efforts of Team Beautiful Day and Calvary Church. "When I visited your website and saw that you named the day The Church has Left the Building, I got chill bumps," said Ray. "That is exactly what the church is supposed to do!"
For many people like Jennifer who walked for the first time, the experience was more than just a cause. The day after, as Jennifer reflected on what she accomplished, she wondered if she really was able to make a difference in the fight against AIDS.
"I cannot question what God can do through my two-hour walk around San Jose," said Jennifer. " I don't know about my impact on the disease, but I do know that it made a difference for me."

MEET MATT TURNER
PASTOR OF COMMUNITY RELATIONS
How do you see Calvary Church interacting more with our community in the upcoming months?
In the coming months, I hope to see Calvary Church take a three-pronged movement into the community: areas of poverty, seniors, and teachers/educators.
With the opening of the House of Hope late this year or the beginning of next year, Calvary will begin serving the over 160 families who need assistance right here in Los Gatos. Secondly, we are looking for partners to begin a new initiative working with seniors. Members of our church family may already have connections in this area. Lastly, as we continue to work with our Kids Club at Carpi Elementary, we hope to find more opportunities to service other local elementary schools.

IN OUR FAMILY
Sam Earp & Mark Lauer Farewells
Sunday, November 2: We will host a reception for Pastor Mark Lauer from 3-4pm in Parkside 1&2. Mark has accepted a call to lead a church in Campbell as senior pastor. Since 2000, Mark has been a vital part of Calvary's home group and discipleship ministries. He, his wife Shawnie and son Morgan will be missed, but we celebrate with them as they pursue God's calling.
Sunday, November 9:
Calvary Church will host a reception in honor of Senior Executive Pastor Sam Earp from 4-5:30pm in Parkside 1&2. Sam and his wife Norma have faithfully served Calvary Church since 1998. This month, Sam offered his resignation as part of the staff reduction process during this difficult time. Sam's leadership has touched many people in our church family. Join us as we honor his contribution and dedication to Calvary Church.
