Cathy, Raymundo, and DebbieMEETING GOD
IN THE DUMPS

An hour's drive across the Mexican border, Cathy Smith entered a different world. A world where people lived in cardboard shacks with no running water or electricity. A world that seemed forgotten.

When Cathy joined last year's Club Mud GO Team, she wasn't sure what she could contribute. She wasn't good at hammering or painting. But she could pick up trash. On a trip to the dump, she met Raymundo.

Raymundo lived in the dumps with many other families. He built bricks out of trash to sell for a single penny. A cut in his foot had become infected and swollen. All he had to protect it were his sandals. Cathy couldn't help, but know someone who could. She returned with Debbie Sellers, a doctor and member of Calvary Church.

"We used almost a boxful of antibacterial wipes and ointment to clean this gaping old cut in his crusty feet," says Debbie. "We gave him a pair of socks and a pair of boots Cathy brought that didn't fit her. They fit his feet perfectly!"

Tears fell from Raymundo's face. He hugged them both repeating: "Thank you. Thank you."

According to Ken Houp, leader of this year's Club Mud trip, many people return with stories like Cathy's. Whether building homes or finding other ways to help, participants of all ages are able to minister the love of Christ to others. "It's a very tangible way to serve and there's great joy in that."

This year's Club Mud adventure is set for Dec. 27-31. The deadline for sign-ups is in mid-November. If you're interested in participating, email Ken as soon as possible at houpkj@comcast.net.

MOPS

EVERY MOM'S LIFELINE
By Sharon Meaney, Staff Writer

My baby won't stop crying -- what do I do? How can I get some more rest? Did I eat today? MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) helps moms connect, belong, and get help, advice, and yes, even food.

"MOPS has been an incredible way for me to connect with lifetime friends in the body of Christ," says Katherine George. "Also, it has given me insight raising my children in the Lord."

Tiffany Linville agrees, "MOPS has allowed me to see that I am not alone in the journey of motherhood. Having other moms that understand how you feel... has been a huge support for me."

MOPS will meet on Tuesday, November 11 at 9:15am at Calvary Church . Childcare is provided.

MEET DEE WILSON
WOMEN'S MINISTRIES DIRECTOR

Dee WilsonWhat excites you about women's ministries?

One element that excites me about Women’s Ministries is its scope – connecting, discipleship, leadership development, evangelism, serving within and outside of Calvary. I’m pleased to see women embracing the vision to reach the community. Quilt Connection just held a silent auction to benefit the House of Hope, and regularly donate quilts to children’s wings, dialysis centers, etc . Our Bible studies join to minister at women’s shelters, such as Heritage House and InnVision, and send supplies to deployed troops overseas. This Tuesday, MOPS is making fleece blankets for City Team to distribute to the homeless.

I'm passionate about helping women grow closer to God, and to see their lives and relationships strengthened as they grow in Christ. I’m passionate about the women!  They’re amazing.  Sometimes I get so excited, I can't even sleep.
