CLASSIC SONG INSPIRES WRITER
OF GO TELL IT
When Steve Dini bought the latest James Taylor Christmas album, he had no idea that one song would inspire an entire musical. But as he listened to the simplistic arrangement of the classic "Go Tell It on the Mountain," his vision for "Go Tell It: The Greatest Story Never Sold" was born.
"There was something about the way the music was arranged," said Steve. "All of the sudden, the words meant something to me."
Although Steve had heard the song hundreds of times, he suddenly felt as if he were hearing it for the very first time. He sat down and began to weave a story around some of our most beloved Christmas carols.
A drama teacher at both Pioneer and Leland High Schools, Steve always had a passion for writing, acting, and directing. When Steve and his wife Sue began attending Calvary Church in January, they found a place to use their gifts and talents. After writing and directing a few short scenes for Easter Sunday, Steve began working with Worship Architect Andy Gridley and Choir Director Andrew Ford to combine the talents of soloists, choir, orchestra, and children's choir for this Christmas production.
"These people are using their talents to create this living creature to use as a gift to Calvary Church and our community," said Steve. "They have caught the spark - even the technical crew is excited!"
Steve says that this production is different than many other Christmas musicals. "The Christmas message is sung and presented in a way that is new and refreshing. You will view Jesus and these Christmas carols in a whole new light."
GO TELL IT will be presented at Calvary Church on December 11 & 12 at 7:00pm in the Worship Center. Tickets are $10 and on sale Sunday. Proceeds will be used to benefit Advent Conspiracy projects.
