Calvary's Handy Helpers Helps Those in Need
A member of our Calvary family, a widow, found herself unable to keep up with the household repairs her husband had always handled. Whom did she call? The Handy Helpers, of course!
Calvary's Handy Helpers are a mix of contractors and other skilled folks who are united by
a desire to show God's love and the church's care in practical ways. They help people who cannot afford to hire a handyman, or who just need some "come-along-side" assistance to complete a task. Over the last several years they have aided the Calvary widow with various painting, plumbing and yard-work projects, enabling her to keep up the home she loves. The service has been delivered with love and cheerfulness, and the widow feels deeply blessed.
The Handy Helpers also reach out to the greater community. A center for children with special needs heard about them and asked for help. The center's special furniture, which its orthopedically challenged children use to learn to sit up, stand and walk, was in a state of disrepair. The Handy Helpers sanded, tightened and varnished each piece, giving the furniture many more years of service. Their work was a testimony without words to the center's staff and parents.
Love, Inc., a non-profit ministry that provides service to individuals in need, also contacted Handy Helpers. One of its clients, Mary, was undergoing cancer treatment and needed a screen door to help keep her room cool. A Handy Helper visited Mary, put up the door, then prayed with her and for her.
