Calvary Youth Take an Adult Role in Helping Our Community

Some youth in our community are finding out you don’t have to be an “adult” to help those in need.  Calvary member Shea O’Gorman, an 11 year old at Los Gatos’ Fischer Middle School, and some of her friends, have been helping homeless families at the Family Shelter on the east side of San Jose.

“We played with the little kids at the shelter, making pop-bead bracelets and plastic necklaces," said Shea “I learned that those kids are just like us. They had fun playing with us and getting small gifts. I don’t even think they knew they were homeless.”

Shea says that she and her friends found out a lot about the disadvantaged just by playing with them. She wants to go back to the San Jose Family Shelter, bringing different friends next time so that more kids will get to see how much fun it is to help.  Relationships were built with the homeless, but also among those serving.

Shea and her family also plan to participate in the Club Mud GO Team to Mexico to help build houses for homeless families in December.

“Some of my friends from school want to go along with us.  I hope they can because we have a lot of fun down there.”

We have so many ways to grow and serve here at Calvary.  Why not jump in and get involved like Shea and her friends are doing and find out how good it feels to do things for others!
