A Note from Laura:

Just a few more weeks of summer vacation! I can't believe the summer is almost over! I hope you've had a great time making some special family memories and enjoying a break from homework and the school routine.

As you're looking for a way to celebrate the end of summer be sure to come to Calvary's 5th Annual Grill & Chill on Monday, September 5th. This year we'll have the popular elementary inflatables in the gym, preschool zone in the Large Chapel and live music on the lawn, but we'll also be adding "Movable Feast" food trucks and the outdoor parking lot will be covered with giant inflatables for those wanting a bigger challenge. These giant inflatables include an extreme water slide, jousting ring, speed pitch, extreme obstacle course and more!

This will be a day you don't want to miss! Grill & Chill runs from 11am-3pm on Monday, September 5th and the event is FREE! Food will be available for purchase.

Make this event a priority in your schedule! Bring your whole family and invite your neighbors and friends too. This is such a great opportunity to show the community that Calvary is a church that cares about families.

And, we need almost 200 people to serve in order to effectively bring this event together. So sign up for a shift (or two!) that day. Consider taking turns with your spouse to keep an eye on the kids, so you can both serve that day! Sign up online at http://tinyurl.com/3n2srsa

Looking forward to celebrating with you!

Serving your family,

Laura Sizelove

This Month in Calvary Kids-Preschool

This month your kids will be looking at different Bible stories where people had to choose between making the right choice and the wrong choice.  Specifically the kids will hear about the choices of the disciples, Jonah, the one leper who said         "Thank you" and the Good Samaritan.

The key concept your preschooler will learn is that God wants us to make the right choices. These stories are probably familiar to most of you, so they are great stories to discuss with your kids as your help make choices in their everyday life.

Grill & Chill

Monday, September 5th Calvary will once again

be hosting our annual Labor Day Grill & Chill

celebration. Plan to bring your friends and

neighbors to this great family-friendly event

with activities for kids of all ages! For more

Step Inside!

It's the last month to "Step Inside" this summer, so before the back to school rush hits, sign up for a Sunday to serve in your kid's classroom. I know the parents who have already done this have really found it rewarding! What better way to wrap up this summer by taking a look at your child's faith education! Look for the sign-up sheets when you check-out this Sunday and you'll get a sweet treat! Or, email lsizelove@calvarylg.com to sign up.

Redwood Camp at Mt. Hermon

12 kids from Calvary had a blast this past week at camp. Joy and Laura were able to visit some of the kids this week and saw how much fun they were having.  Pray that the Lord continues to guide in their lives as they reflect on what they learned at camp.

Elementary

For the month of August our virtue is Grace: Getting something great that you don't deserve. And this month's memory verse is "God's grace has saved you because of your faith in Christ. Your salvation doesn't come from anything you do. It is God's gift." Ephesians 2:8, NIrV

We'll be studying the parables that Jesus taught about the lost coin, lost sheep and the lost son. What all the stories have in common is that it shows that in spite of our sin, God gives us grace and offers us salvation. We'll talk about that God loves all people, that Jesus is the only one who can save us, that God loves us unconditionally and that God shows us grace, so we need to show others grace. We'll touch on some pretty key issues of the Christian faith, so this is a great time to talk to your kids about your own faith journey and how you've experienced God's grace in your own life.

Awana Registration

Kids ages 3 through 6th grades are invited to register for Awana beginning August 21st. Awana meets on Sunday evenings at Calvary from 5:00-6:30pm starting September 11th and emphasizes spiritual growth through biblical training and service projects, combined with lots of fun! Look for our Awana registration table outside the gym on August 21st, 28th and September 4th. Can't wait to have you join us!
